Phoenix Festival Tullamore July 17th -19th

Postby Paschal » Sun, 01 Feb 2009 5:17 +0000

Guys. Have been thinking about a Midlands run during the phoenix festival in Tullamore. The festival is the usual mix of food, drink, music, entertainment etc. The core to the weekend is Hot Air Balloons (Tullamore was destroyed by fire caused by a hot air balloon in the 1700's, hence the significance). More details for the historians at www.offalyhistory.com.

Anyway back to the run. Have spoken to the organisers of the festival and they would be delighted to include MX5Ireland on the program of events. Just guaging interest at this stage, what I am proposing is meeting up on Sunday 19th July, say 11.00 am, somewhere on route, say Tyrrelsspass (Castle) for a photo shoot and going to Tullamore via Clara (Brian Cowens town!). Couple of runs around town, with a run down the main street (will be closed to normal traffic!). Park in town with lunch break. Run over the more senic parts of Offaly in the afternoon (Banagher on Shannon, Clonmacnoise, Birr etc), this part can be agreed later.

Prize of a hot air balloon ride for the best turned out car on the day (for the driver and passanger, not the car!!)

What do you think, let me know if you are interested and I will progress further. Paschal.

Web site of the festival is www.phoenixfestival.ie

Sounds like a good run I'd be up for it.

The car has to be the best turned out, not you!!!! Can't bring the car on the balloon ride, so driver and passanger will go instead. (wonder could we hook an MX5 up instead of the basket, just a thought!?). BTW, we can award the balloon ride for any other reason, ideas??

Thanks for the replies, we are up to 5 at this stage, we would really need 20/30 to make an impact, so its looking gooood

Sounds good, Paschal, thanks for efforts in arranging this. Will put it in the calendar - (provisionally) depending on summer hols.

Was trying to get through Tullamore last year on "Festival weekend" (I think) and it was busy as feck!

Staying over is no problem. Let me know who wants to stay and I will arrange a deal in a local hotel, closer to the time
