GREAT!!! Just back from a trip out west and though the weather wasn't fantastic, the roads were! I really missed my 5 which I had to leave at home *sob* Couldn't manage the 2 mums, Will and the dog! Drove past Lough Key on our way back via Sligo, it looks gorgeous. What about a Sligo run guys, around Rosses Point is lovely but a road officianado will have to help us out with a suitable route. Don't we have a Sligo member? S

Anyone see yesterday's Irish Times holiday supliment? Article on Lough Key and Boyle in it and it looks like there's not much by way of restaurant's. The only one mentioned is The Moving Stairs which is described as "having a pleasent ambiance and a wide-ranging menu. You can eat upstairs or in the bar downstairs, which is the venue for the best of traditional music gigs and craic". If this is the only one in town perhaps we should be booking now for the Saturday night.
If interested, please add your name:

Tom, hold back a minute on the restaurant. I've just been talking to the Royal Hotel in Boyle and am expecting them to contact me tomorrow with a proposal for a private function room , and 3 course meal for 20 people for Saturday night. The number of people is not important right now as it can be adjusted later. I have also asked them to investigate the arranging of transport back to the campsite so we'll be able to have a few scoops without fear of having to drive afterwards. We can compile a list of interested members after I get the details posted. There will be no obligation on people to attend this function, so don't anyone feel pressurised in any way, please. Watch this space John

No problem John, the stange thing is, that, in the Places to Stay column there is no mention of The Royal Hotel. However, for anyone interested, it mentions Lough Key House ( www.loughkeyhouse.com), Rosdarrig ( www.rosdarrig.com) and Abbey House ( www.abbeyhouse.com). We could always look for a rate and menu for 20 people at The Moving Stairs? I've no problem with either, I just made the suggestion on foot of the article in yesterday's Times.

it looks like we'll be dining out on the sat night, but for the friday night there I was going to bring an instant bar-b-q to do up a bit of a grill on, with a few cans of some tasty beverage. Thoughts?

Sounds good - out of curiosity I will phone The Moving Stairs tomorrow to see what they can offer for the Saturday night and we can compare with whatever John gets from the hotel, is this OK?

Of course we'll need bbq's...how else we gonna cook breakfast???? someone bring an electric kettle as I'm gonna bring the necessary wiring to give us power,(once we're not in a downpour) if memory serves me correctly there are a number of 16amp outlets all aound the site, so extension leads and a few inspection lamps at the ready. Who knows, we might even set up a webcam and do a live broadcast If we get a private room at the hotel for our group, lets make it a birthday party for the mx5..ideas anyone?? A cake in the shape of a roadster maybe?? Karaoke??....am I losing the run of myself here??? Tom. lough key house is a b&b iirc John
