Not as good as Avoca (the cake that is)!!

Guys, any of you fancy a start off at Avoca earlier to convoy over, I know a couple of you would be going that way anyway? Say 10am?

Sounds good - I may not have my '5 ready in time (have to replace the front shocks and steering rods), but here's hoping it makes its first showing of 2010

Shena, the convoy from Avoca sounds good.

Stig, JohnL and anyone else coming from the south can join in en-route and arrive at Avoca for, possibly, a quick cuppa and then on to Carrickmines.

Hope the weather is good on Saturday to lash a bit of TLC on P. I have been surfng a few different posts did Ivan really buy that gorgeous MX5 plum coloured car if so can't wait to see it on the road. Teenag fair play to you for heading North in the snow! I wouldn't head to Tesco and it is 5 mins away.

Sorry guys, have just been told I have to go to a confirmation on Sunday, so no tyre kick for me. It should be pointed out that it was the Avoca shop/restaurant at Rathcoole (on the N7) that was the original suggestion, just in case anyone thinks it's a different one

Pretty sure I'm working Sunday  besides, I still haven't gotten that problem with the fan belt sorted out yet. Hope to remove the alternator pulley asap and get it cleaned. I thought that the problem had gone away, but after a good motorway thrashing on the way back from Stig's on Saturday it has reared it's ugly head again.

It's the belt for alternator, being eaten by something, I suspect the pulley as it appears to be quite corroded , and the smell of burning rubber (no sniggering in the cheap seats) through the vents is sickening. On 4th belt since this time last year. I won't be taking the car too far from home until the problem is resolved.

@ Ollie..
Yeah, spoke too soon but will have to tackle it again, asap

The pulley is in 2 halves. They should be tight with no wobble when you spin it without a belt. Clean the rust off with course emery cloth. When fitting the belt, tighten it just enough that so that on its longest length between pulleys, you can just manage to twist it by hand, 90 degrees. Same goes for any other belts.

My alternator belt got badly chewed up at Christmas. I had the charging light come on so I tightened the belt. I think I tightened too much which caused the problem. I replaced the belt and went for a short run tonight and it seems ok. As pointed out, the tension of the belts is important.
