Hi folks, I have just bought my second MX5 after being without one for four years! I want to fit a hardtop to this one, can anyone tell me how to fit the side brackets on to the car for the hardtop? Thanks. Brendan.

You don't have to have the side clamps to fit the hardtop just the Frankenstein bolts and the front clamps. HTH

Hi mx5ash, thanks for your reply, armed with this information I had a go at this job last night. The side panels need to come of, but this is not very difficult, just a few screws and clips, then take the panel into the warmth of the house and cut out the premarked section on the inside of the panel, refit the panels on the car and do the same on the other side and thats it, both sides took me about 90minutes in total, job finished! Thanks.

Excellent lads. I have those side clamps since last Year and kept putting off cutting the side panels.

Brendan, are you saying that the side panels are premarked for cutting on the inside?

Yes, they are marked on the back, a bit difficult to see and they may have some sound deadening felt stuck on them, which I just peeled off, and there it is , I cut mine with a stanley knife very carefully, but you do not need to be too exact as the bracket more than covers them on the outside. This was a job I was not looking forward to, but it is not difficult.
