Great idea John!

Thanks for that John.

Taking your suggestions 1 x 1.

In spite of being involved as Media Co-ordinator on the GOC, I have no problem in taking on the task and, hopefully, by the time we have the run I should have built up a considerable number of contacts across the varius media outlets. So getting publicity shouldn't be a problem.

The car push is a good idea but having been involved in a Dublin to Cork Bed Push for a few years its hard work and takes a couple of days. With the road trip, we could, staying off the motorways, do a bucket collection through each town and in advance I could have some sponsorship cards printed for participants to complete. We could recruit local branches of SOI in or near the various towns to help.

As for Mazda, I could, in my SOI role, contact them to see if they would come on board - for a considerable contribution of course.

I have a GOC meeting in Limerick tomorrow and I'll be bringing up this proposal and i expet I'll get full suport for it.

Once again - anyone who would like to be a volunteer for the games please go to www.specialolympics.ie to register. It is important that this is done early as there will be training days in advance of the games and with 3,500 volunteers required theres a lot of organising to be done.

Thanks again John for your contribution as this is the kind of discussion that will help piece together a good result.

Tom

Just struck me Teena, how about an mx5 golf outing as a fund-raiser for SOI, seeing as you're now the Lady Captain?? All joking aside, it would be a good day out 8)

PS , Just to declare a (non) interest...I've NEVER hit a golf ball in my life, but would certainly give it a go

Hi all - good to see the interest.

Brought up the idea at the GOC meeting yesterday and we will have full support from HQ. They will print sponsorship cards and provide all the help required.

Thinking of a cannonball run Dublin - Galway - Limerick - Cork - Dublin.

As for J.L's. ploughing match - oops! golf game. If anyone would like to organise one, or anything else to raise funds for SOI national games, it would be very welcome.

Then I've got an 80 ball advantage on ya... (although I didn't quite 'hit' them all). Any other closet clubbers interested?

Thanks Tonym,

More details will be posted as soon as the planning has been completed. Trying to find a main sponsor so if anyone, ,even in the current economic climate, knows of someone who would like to dip in their pockets, to sponsor the run, please let me know.
