Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla....OK, I know I'm being lazy, but I'm knee deep in permits and safety statements for my planned 'Picnic from the Park Run to Slane Castle on AUGUST 29th... so please give me a short cut and tell me where you're all camping on the Donegal Run, and do I need to do anything, or can I just turn up? xx
Climbed Elbrus, Island Peak, Kilimanjaro, Elgon, Everest BC, Mulhacen, Elgon, Kayaked the Liffey to the Nile, swam the Liffey, the Lee & packed ten triathlons into a year... catch me blogging on: http://www.teenagates.com
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Strong possibility that I'll get there along with several of the family, so beware all the telegraph poles in Donegal!!!
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Teena, camping is at Corcreggan Mill. phone 0749136409 to book and tell them you're with mx5ireland to get spot along with the other tree-huggers............. don't mean JLeamy.
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla. Will it be necessary to book in advance for camping as my plans for that weekend are gonna be on a "wait and see" basis, things like weather, finances, availability of others etc to be taken into consideration at the time.?
John
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.i would say that anyone that is sure they are travelling to book and anyone else to book as soon as you know if you are going to make it.
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.just in from doing trial run of route for sat 21st aug. Started at the hotel in Dunfanaghy where we can reserve a room just of the bar so we can all eat together. There is music with a live band in the bar from 10.30. Because this room is seperate from the bar, kids are allowed a little later than the 9pm watershed. 11pm or so. Then did Horn Head and Marble Hill before travelling to Downings and the Atlantic Drive. I then went through Carrigart and across the Harry Blaney bridge to Fanad Head. I then stopped in Portsalon and found a lovely restaurant at the top of the pier where we can stop for lunch and a wee walk-about. the restaurant is called Sarah's restaurant and The Stores Olde World Bar. A lovely spot. Leaving Portsalon i travelled over Knockalla to Rathmullan and on to Letterkenny. Depending on our progress on the day we may travel back to Dunfanaghy via Muckish. All in , i think it's a very good route with good surfaces and only one short stretch where the road is being widened, but they don't work on it on a saturday.
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Sarah's restaurant will need rough numbers so they can try and keep us together but we'll have a good idea nearer the time and can phone that morning when we start out as we won't know till then how many travel on the day. I have been contacted by a few local owners and some mx5 ni members expressed an interest. To allow for people travelling on the morning,we can start at 11am and as we will be comming back through Dunfanaghy after Horn Head at about 11.30. there are plenty of places along the way for photos. To try and guage nos, we should post our names and accomadation. 1. Brian & Mary - hotel
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Barney what hotel are you staying in
We are only immortal for a limited time
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Carrig Rua. By the way for anyone taking family up that will not be going on the run, Dunfanagh Stables is on the main street and i saw a group heading out across the beach today and it looked fabulous. Booking is essential. 0749100980
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Fair play Barney, lot of miles done there...looks like a great weekend ahead.
thanks for all the info Ann
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.Hi...just booked for 2 nights in Corcreggan Mill, brillant rate of €27.50 per night each. Really looking forward to meeting up with our Southern cousins for this weekend.
Regards Allan and Sonja
Re: donegal run...atlantic drive and knockalla.€27.50 is the mills b&b rate. dorm type accomadation is cheaper and camping is €9 pp per night. hotel is €99 per room for 2 nights and some rooms sleep 4 so it works out at only €12.50 pp per night. hotel also has 2 family suites for the same price and they sleep 6. breakfast in the hotel is on a self service continental style basis.
