Only just spotted the stream this morning.. this is amazing. Sorry I didn't get back sooner.
So what do I do now? Can you guys really help save my little red?
I'm free August weekend 10, 11, 12. Will that suit? we seem to be talking Galway? She can get there alright, still getting around, just very smelly and noisy. Many thanks buddies. :D TeenaG

Is the car/engine losing power as well ?
Loctite.....

(edit) I think your engine will be ok, you just need some of the lads to take a look at it. I've never ever heard of a standard engine just going pop. It could be just the 'Woodruff Key' issue at the worst, a tiny tube of Loctite will fix that

Have lots of band-aids - plenty of bloody knuckles working on the engine without having double jointed tiny fingers and wrists

Well I have a shed with a roof on it, Steve and I have done a few bits and pieces on our cars in it during the winter.
I'd be looking at the weekend of the 10,11,12 Aug if there is a pit stop team available. You'd need a hoist, jacks etc, as the shed is literally a shed where I store the the 5's. I have a kettle and biscuits :D

Not really. I just have to pump the accelerator a bit when I'm taking off, changing or moving up the gears. As soon as she catches, she's off, and on the motorway you'd hardly think anything was wrong. Noisy though. Engine roar noisy, not rattle noisy, if you know what I mean.

My garage refused to do a full service on it, said I'd be 'wasting yer money lass'.... said the engine was on the way out and it wasn't worth replacing in a 21 year old car.. when I persisted he told me to see what turned up in the NCT (sometime in Aug).

Sounded like very kind and nice advice.

The only thing is, for the past 10 months he's been trying to sell me a new MX5.... :|

If the cat's gone, the internals will be rattling and blocking the exhaust resulting in extreme lack of power and all manner of weird noises.

If the air filter is bad, it'll be choking the engine causing starting problems and general driveability issues.

If you want to drop over at the weekend, Teena, I'd be glad to take a look.
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
