Run West Cork BHol Monday Oct 29th

Postby shenab » Wed, 12 Sep 2012 8:47 +0000

Ok Paulc I'm taking the hints:))

This Dub is in Union Hall for the BH and would love the help of the crew from Cork in arranging a run out there if possible.

Ideas welcome and perhaps we should start somewhere closer to town as early as possible to blow away those bank holiday cobwebs.

Was looking foward to this run but afraid i'm caught that weekend ,bringing kids on school trip. I am planning to go to Cork on the previous saturday, 20th ,[bringing wife to a conference] and was planning to do a trip myself around Co. Cork ,as she will be busy all day , any good sugestions re. route, lunch stop etc,I'm planning to put up a bit of milege.
Sorry for not being able to make this weekend and thanks in advance for any advice,

Brian;
Suggestion. Exit City on R600, pass the airport and down to Kinsale. Then follow the coast line staying on the R600 as far as Clonakilty and on to Skibbereen, but via Glandore and Union Hall. A quick nip out to Baltimore, back into Skibbereen and on to Ballydehob. Now you have a choice, out to Skull and Mizen Head or head directly for Durrus and on for Kilcrohane and Sheep’s Head. Retrace your steps to Kilcrohane and on to Bantry. If you haven’t had enough at this stage come back to me and I will give you as much again! Some of this is the route I took for the New Year's Day run. Let me know where you are staying when in Cork, a few of us could always meet up at some stage over the weekend if you like. Unfortunately I can’t do a run that weekend but I might be able to squeeze something in.
Shena;
I am adding my name to the B/H Monday run. I suggest meeting at the Viaduct Inn, just exiting the city on the N71, main Bandon road. Any of the above makes a start of a route but we can wait and see who is coming to finalise.

That sounds great and I know there are some gorgeous hilly runs around Bantry so perhaps a local can help us out.

Any time Brien, like yourself I live close to some fabulous roads and love to share them with others. The Raddison in Little Island is good for a weekend stay by the way.

If you are going that far west maybe the Glengarriff to Kenmare road over the mountains is well worth a look if the road is in good nick.Spectacular scenery if the weather is good.Hav'nt been there for years so the road might be gone to hell by now but it was always worth the spin.
