Postby jack » Wed, 22 Sep 2010 12:35 +0000

Hi Guys
Can any one give me a quick run down on fitting the two catches( receivers)
on the body work so I can fasten the hard top down at the sides
Thanks

Hardtop Side Mounting Plates Mazda MX5 Mk1, Mk2 and 2.5
[SI604] £38.50

by Pete Taylor Date Added: Friday 05 May, 2006

Delivered promptly, but no fitting instructions, so:

Remove brace bar if fitted
Remove the 2 studs for the hood cover
Take out the plastic plug to allow trim to part around seatbelt fastening
Take off the metal cover at the rear of the door opening (1 screw)
Pull away trim at door opening
Pull off the panel completely (may need to move carpeting slightly to do this)
Turn over the panel and the bit to cut out is marked
I used a drill to make an initial hole, then a combination of coping saw and file to cut out the oval

Hi Jack,

You need to remove the plastic panel just on the inside of the door (pull off rubber edge trim, remove the "cap" on the top of the "pillar" and a couple of small bolts up near the seat belt tower, all 10mm I think), you'll then see the captive nuts where the bolts for the catch hook bolt in. So, on the back of the panel there should be a matching oval outline showing where to make your cuts in the plastic for the bolts. Then just reassemble and bolt them on.
