Roof slashed - feck. Which glue to stick on my patch?

Postby Reesy » Fri, 12 Nov 2010 1:45 +0000

Hi,

Returned to car in DUB long term red carpark this eve to find that a skanger had slashed 6" gashes in my roof, set off the alarm & left what appears to be his theft kit (multimeter, wires, crimp connectors, pliers, tape, cable ties... also a dozen or so business cards) behind the car. Guess he was disturbed.

The hole is gaffer-taped shut for now. 2 slashes are at right angles which makes for a big hole.

I have spare cloth so can repair the top, at least temporarily. Does anyone know which glue is best to use?

bummer.... sorry to hear that.

Is it vinyl or mohair?

I remember seeing a vinyl repair kit in Halfords. Also spoke to a guy once who does awning repairs and marine cover repairs - some sort of heat bonding. Think I came across him in the golden pages.

Awe that's absolutely rotten. I'm so sorry. I've heard about lots of problems in the long-term car park. Such mindless prats to do that stuff. Really gets me angry.
Climbed Elbrus, Island Peak, Kilimanjaro, Elgon, Everest BC, Mulhacen, Elgon, Kayaked the Liffey to the Nile, swam the Liffey, the Lee & packed ten triathlons into a year... catch me blogging on: http://www.teenagates.com

There is CCTV in the longterm but its useless - the CCTV in the multistorey is much better so would'nt park anywhere else at DAP - *astards

Hi, thanks for your sympathy gang. Incidentally a mate of mine had his motorbike nicked from the short-term car park a while back.

Patched the slashes with spare cloth & bostik before the rain came. Worry how well it'll hold up with the top going up & down, but we'll see.

Quick update: patched the roof but it leaks - can't see where the water's coming in, but it is, so I guess I'm in for a new roof. Or a new car - am kinda thinking of changing it for another (thinking of BRG with tan).
