MX5 Passenger window not working

Postby jaffa20 » Mon, 06 Jun 2011 5:24 +0000

Hi guys,

While out for a drive today in my 2.5, the passenger window stopped working. I think something must have snapped. Think there was a noise when it happened. The window won't go up or down and falls down a bit after pulling it up. Sounds like a cable but couldn't see anything loose when i took the door card off. Then again, i dunno what i'm looking for...

I was browsing online and only see cables for the mk1 for sale and they don't seem to fit. Looks like you have to buy the whole motor system if you want to replace  That seems a bit much. I can still hear the motor working but just not winding the window up or down. Couldn't find anything online about the mk2 window problem so hoping some of you guys can point me in the right direction or what to look for. Thanks :)

I must be blind. Figured out the cable has snapped so trying to pick up new ones at the moment. Only see cables for sale for the mk1.. Anybody know if they are the same for mk2/2.5? Looks like a fiddly job to fix :?

Not sure if they are the same or not, autolinkuk has used units but listed separately for mk1 & mk2 though.
You could try bringing the old cable to somewhere that services motorbikes and see if they'll make up a new one...

Thanks Steve, Don't think they are the same. Heard about getting a cable made up alright but just sounds tricky as hell to fit and i'd probably mess it up. Trader on mx5nutz is getting a 2nd hand complete unit for me for £25. A pretty good price so hoping that will sort it out. Plenty of good guides online for me to do a bit of diy.
