Electric Window's not working

Postby John M » Tue, 08 May 2012 8:46 +0000

Hi all, been a while thanks to baby not breaking down.
Mark I 1996, 1.8 Eunos.
My electric windows were working fine, the usual a bit slow but worked fine.
Suddenly: Nothing?
No response when i use the window switches ( No sound, no motors running )
I tested all the fuses under the dash to the right of the steering colm ( All perfect )

Any ideas, before i have to go pulling things apart???

Get out multimeter, take off centre console, switch on ignition and see are you getting 12v at the back of window switches would be a good start.

both gone together is a power supply problem i'd say. How did you check the Fuses??

Hi again,
Been very busy and haven't had a chance to check the switches.
Got a look at them today, took the center console off.
With the ignition on i seem to get now power coming to the switches?
I am using a multi-meter, this is what i checked the fuses with, (it's working).
The connection block has six wires.
(1) Heaviest wire: Blue/Red, I presume the power supply?
(2) Black
(3) Green/Red
(4) Green
(5) Red/Black
(6) Red/Green

I checked all the fuses down to the right of the steering (there is nothing to identify which fuse is for what, so i checked them all.
I also checked all the fuses under the hood, up on the wing driver's side.
Are there more?
Where do i go next?

Hold on a sec - are you getting volts at the centre console switches or not ?
If you 'are' getting volts there then take the door panel off and see if your getting volts at the window motor when using the switch. Also, visually inspect all the wires in the harness going from the door into the car as it just sounds like a broken wire somewhere to me.

Sorry, typed in now instead of no.
No, i am getting no power to the center console?
But all the fuses are ok.
I have no cover on the internal fuse box, but i came across a diagram on one of the sites that shows the position of the power-window fuse.
It's one of the 30amp fuses.

A broken wire or a bad connector so, easy to trace down with a multimeter :)
