mk2 fuel wiring issue

Anyone any info on fuel pump relay wiring for mk2 1.6. year 2000.Car starts fine if I run cable to fuel pump directly from battery but otherwise wont start.Swopped fuel pump relay but to no benefit.When ignition is off all 4 wires at relay show earth/ground but with ignition on 3 are live and 1 is earth but if I put earth to the live red wire with the white stripe pump will start working.obviously small wiring issue but hardly immobiliser as I have fitted a jap ecu with no immobiliser and car drives perfect except for this issue.Not a big deal as I could probably bypass the wire ,with earth from ignition switch ,but I would like to fix it properly if at all possible .!!!
