Ignition Timing

Fergus mentioned to me that the ignition timing can be advanced/retarded from standard to produce more power, better MPG.

Does anyone know the number of degrees? Does anyone have any links to how it can be done - I presume a timing light is required, other than that, I presume all that's to it is hooking it up and moving the cam position sensor - is that all?

Once the current problems are sorted, I think it's time the 5 was given the attention it deserves. From what Fergus is doing, it seems like a lot of fun and extra power can be had for not a lot of fiddling with the engine, and not a whole pile of money. Ours is pretty much standard except the wheels/suspension.

Factory is set to 10 degrees, advanced up to 14 is the normal mod. Yeah you need a timing light and then losen the cam sensor and turn it. Sean has a timing light in cork and it can be rented out for a very reasonable fee.
Won't give you more power as such just move the power band lower down the rev range.
Heres all the info on it
