Wiring Spotlights

Fitting a set of spot lights to my Mark1. I have fitted spots before but have always had direct access to the battery.
Where can I take a heavy enough supply to drive the spots ....... (from the engine bay?) I have seen the posting on fog light fitting but it came to no conclusion. I know the auxiliary supply beside the air-box is 12volt but is it heavy enough for the spots? Don't want to burn up anything!
