I decided to change the static aerial on my 01 Mark 2.5 to an electric one (thanks to Frank for the aerial). I have now discovered why the aerial was changed to static aerial in the first place!! There is no power coming from the radio switch. I need to remove the radio to see what the problem is. Its a double DIN standard radio, so how do I remove? It looks as if I need 2 sets of removal tools, where can I get these, are they universal or are they specific to Mazda. In relation to the lack of power, has anyone any ideas? Is there an inline fuse that could be blown? If there is a problem with the radio, I am sure I can tap into an ignition feed, which will at least get the aerial moving. Thanks

removal tools are the standard ones... should be two (or four if double din) holes on each side when u remove any snap on trim. I bought these in Halfords at one stage but i think u can make up something from coat hanger wire or similar.

Easy to make from wire coat hangars. There are probably removable vertical panels on each side of the radio, that when removed will reveal either 2 or 4 holes on each side - its a matter of cutting the coat hanger into a U shape and putting it in all the holes at the same time - you may have to wiggle them about a little bit and pull it towards you at the same time, but should be straight forward enough

A couple of nails also will do the trick !

Perhaps you could just wire the aerial to an ACC feed (ignition positive) - there should be some in the boot, eg. for the hardtop relay etc. It'll mean the aerial pops up when you turn the ignition on, but that would still be ok

That's how mine operates. So that would certainly be a way to sort out your problem.

That would be fine and could save a lot of hassle. Any idea where I can find that ACC feed in the boot?

While it's in my head, I may as well dump the knowledge of the aerial circuit here: the wire from the radio is light-green/yellow - it's this that supplies current to the aerial and should be presented at the boot. Whether this is -ve or +ve I have no idea.

There's a fuse in the boot area on the right-hand-side (10A, red) which supplies permanent 12V to the aerial. The output from that fuse is a red/black wire.

There's a relay that connects to these that make the aerial motor do its trick. The one I gave you has the relay built on to the body of the motor.

Can you check that the 10A fuse is in place and okay ? That red/black wire could be used on the motor.
And check that the lt-green/yellow wire is supplying something (-ve or +ve) ? Maybe it's +ve for up, -ve for down ?

I have permanent 12v and negative; both of these work fine. Its the feed from the radio (grey/black, I think) that should supply + but supplies nothing. The aerial itself is working fine, both up and down, as I tested it with a direct + feed to the "radio" switched input.....if you know what I mean. All I need is to find where the fault is in the radio switch feed. Is it a fuse problem, a broken wire problem or a problem within the radio itself? As I say, if I could get an iginition + connection in the boot, this would do and save a whole lot of trouble!

dunno dude, closest I see in the boot area is the feed for the fuel pump and it would be wrong to tap into that.

the heated window circuit uses its own supply, so no ggo there.

the wiring diagram says lt-gr for the aerial - must be lightp-grey as jyou saty and not light-green. i'll have another look at the diagram tomorrow

SORTED!! Got the radio removed and checked the wiring. Had continuity in the radio switched wire to the boot, so the problem was with the output from the radio. Just snipped the radio switched wire and tapped into the acc power to the radio. So aerial now goes up and down with the ignition, which is fine. Thanks to everyone for their contributions.
