Well fellas, is it a big job to remove diff from a mark 1 1.6 mx-5? Anyone any experience?

Its a bit of a struggle getting it off the PPF (remove the bolt collars on top + bottom). Can be worse trying to get it back in + lining everthing up, especially if you don't have a lift.

you dont need to remove the diff to weld it up.
get it in the air and take the shafts out , remove cover

weld away to your hearts content, make sure you degrease the internals firstly.

once put back together again , goodluck drivin it.
1.6 cars with welded diffs are dangerous.( see you in a ditch 5 mins after youve taken it up the road)
just man up and buy a torsen lsd

do you have a life insurance policy ? if not , i suggest you get one.

Thanks for that maybe I will leave it in. I have had an sr20 s13 2 litre turbo with a welded diff and an rb26 2.6 twin turbo r32 gtst with welded diff so I reckon I could look after a 1600 mx-5 but thanks for the help.

Go easy on it though.. 1.6 diffs break easily enough with abuse (or not even..). The 1.8 diffs are much stronger.
