Remove Black Stuff - think it's liquid tar?

Postby shenab » Fri, 23 Apr 2010 5:34 +0000

Ok I think I got this on the car on the way west last weekend and I have tried all the usual degreasers but short of picking it all off is there any easier way to remove this?

It was all over the lower door which is what makes me think this was liquid when it hit.

I am getting fixated with detailing my car.. yes Ann I know, Monica#2!

Dosnt look like tar, dont think its been warm enough for tar to melt, looks like paint you could try white spirit but be careful dont rub too hard.

I've used petrol to remove this stuff. Not nice to work with but cheap & available.

Ah! Shena, you can't leave it there. What were you up to an I hope it wasn't too bad.

When I worked in the Body shop with used Petrol to remove the heavy Tar and gunk. It was better than most off the shelf products. thing about it is you has to leave the heavy coated petrol on for a few minutes and then go back with a different cloth and wipe it off.

i might be wrong , but it looks like paint has come off , exposing the original black sill

use you nail on it and feel if where the black is does it rise up of step down after sliding your nail from the white bit to the black

if its just tar , use petrol.
