NCT: fail for rear axle side-slip

Postby Reesy » Fri, 28 May 2010 12:25 +0000

Hi guys,

NCT yesterday: failed on Rear axle side slip test: Test reading -1.0 m/km.

Anybody know what this is & how to fix it?

Simon
ps Incidentally I also failed on:
- Central brakelight not working (note to self: get wife to press brake pedal & check lights myself, not vice-versa)
- Rear offside bushes on axle & wishbone worn: Need to get on to Polybush.
No more Mk1, now driving an '08 Mk3. Still fun!

Hey Simon. , I'd say your fail is related to your bush's being worn out mate

Hi Ash,

Yeah, I thought that too! Just got under the car with a torch - & the bushes look absolutely fine :? . That figures - I fitted polybushes 7 years ago, & I think their expected life's a good bit longer. I took a toothbrush & soapy water to them to make it look like I'd changed them(!). Dunno what the tester was talking about.

My mechanic told me it was tracking that caused the side-slip. He isn't always right, but I think I'll stick it in for tracking & wheel alignment, then bung it in for the test again. Let's hope I get a different tester next time!.
