relatively big Electrical problem

hello everyone,

i was down in the Curragh with the army last week, drove down everything fine 7 hours + later back into the the car to drive back to Dublin and oh ohh..

the water and oil temp dials arent working, Rev/tacho gauge isnt working ( the speed still works), indicators dont work and neither does the indicator indicators on the console ??? ... lights still pop up and turn on.. thats about it.

im thinking its the relay but need other peoples oppinions before i start messing with stuff

Check your fuses first

Hazard fuse and meter fuse for a start. Then check the grounds at the rear passenger side of engine bay (wiggle the wires behind the CAS/rear of engine while you are there).

same happened with our yoke. Was a relay for the alarm that went crusty and kept blowing the indicator fuse under the dash. Check all wiring for indicators.

i take it the same would be for the oil/water/tacho gauge..


also the car desided to stop working on the ballyogan road near dunnes, most likely the fuel filter as the car tries to start( turns over) but then shortly dies out or anytime you press the gas, cuts out immediately

Most likely just a blown fuse or two. If it is then change them, and I it keeps occuring then look into it a bit more deeply! But make sure you don't put in a higher fuse in the hope. It will stop it blowing, as it will only damage something else!!

yeah, gauges were affected too. Check all indicator wiring, bulb holders and flasher unit for corrosion/bad earths.

fixed... there were 3 or 4 fuses that went at the same time... :O.. hmm alternator?

also since the whole fuse thing happed, and we thought the fuel filter clcged up, whih got replaced anyway since when we took it off it was all blak coming out of it....

well the fluid looks almost black and there was a bit of sediment
