Handbrake not holding

Postby MX5Spares » Sun, 14 Apr 2013 5:06 +0000

I am having difficulty with handbrake not holding the car even though it feels fine inside, 6 notches and all that. Any experts out there.I fitted new discs and pads and unwound calipers with 4mm allen and rewound until stop and released about quarter turn. Tightened up slack inside car but still not effective handbrake. Then I tried to adjust the slack off the outer handbrake cable but still not effective handbrake despite feeling great.( the handbrake that is )!! Looking at mx5 oc uk it seems there is a compensator to be re-aligned on the handbrake outer cable ???Also something about having 1mm of gap between caliper stop and lever end ??Wrecking my head .

Sorted. Disconnected handbrake cables totally at calipers and despite all adjustment being released previously, I got 2 turns extra on each caliper adjuster ,even though the calipers were fully adjusted before I took off cables ....... Mad .I can now leave two black stripes on the road for about 20ft .!!!!! Massive job. Absolute brilliant handbrake. So much for youtube video,s /miata king etc.
