Rear brake issue - help!

Postby rodoconnor3 » Fri, 08 May 2015 9:26 +0000

Hey,
I'm replacing my rear pads. The left went fine but the right piston won't retract. I've got the Alan key in but it doesn't seem to retract the piston and seems to be oily when it is taken out. I'm guessing the piston is seized? Any way to salvage this? What's the leaking issue?
I'm in a rush as always, nct'd tomorrow eve! Simple solution might be to just put the old pads back in for the moment to get through the test, not the best option, but it might allow me more time to pass the test then sort the issue after.
Any ideas??
Thanks.

If the allen key wont move the piston thens its knackered.Thats the adjustment for handbrake so it needs to be working. We have calipers if you need one. 086 8226506

@autocheck, cheers but unless I can get it to Cork today I'm going to have to figure something else out for the NCT. I might be back to you though.

Your only option is to source it locally! Few guys are from Cork, know anyone?

Thanks Deivis!
On mine the pistons aren't seized but I had to play with the allen bolt adjustment to be able to push the pistons back in with a big C clamp. Winding the adjuster back wouldn't be enough, nor pushing the pistons with the C clamp, but fiddling with both at the same time worked..

Guys I thought the Allen key screw was for winding the piston back in, if it's not workng then the piston is probably fudged. You should never use a g clamp on back brakes. Just what I have read and experienced.....
