I am gonna replace the bearings on the rear wheels. Does anyone know if there are specialist tools needed or can I just whip out the old one and in with the new?

have you bought bearings?
are you sure you are sure they are gone?
Done the "wiggle" test?

No I haven't bought anything and NO i am not sure of anything. There does appear to be a little movement when on the ground but oddly not when jacked up.

there also seemed to be a bit of a whistley howl coming from the rear which sounded a wee bit bearingy. Damm i'm technicaly gifted :P

I'll probably ignore it or turn the stereo up

I find that driving top down eliminates a lot of funny noises

have you changed your diff oil recently? If not, it might be worth putting some Redline in there ... If theres no movement in the wheel when its in the air, I'd say its def more likely to be your diff than bearing FWIW.
