Mk1 Drivers headlight won't go up.

Postby Rooky » Mon, 11 Feb 2019 8:56 +0000

Hey guys
Any help appreciated.
My drivers side headlight will not lift up at all.
Was working perfectly last week, this week it isn't.
Passenger side is working perfectly.

Power is going to the motor.

did you try winding it into the upright position using the red knob on top of the motor? Its just beside it, pull off the cover on the top and you'll see it. Be aware that if its working it'll pop up and down suddenly if you wind it backwards ;-)
Its in the foreground in the centre of the photo here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/92mx5/530 ... et-993111/

Did you clean the ground points?
Might be worth removing that motor (easy enough) and plugging it in to the connector for the other side to see if it works.

Hey Steve

Thanks for the reply. I took the cover off and tried to turn it clockwise, but there is a lot of resistance and turns back.
Light doesn't do anything.
I'll try the earth points and motor test you mentioned.

If you can, get someone to operate the button on the dash while you leave your hand on the motor to feel if it’s attempting to work ,and at the same time look to see if the linkages are all intact, if that makes any sense

Steve, Pops many thanks for your help. Have it all sorted now.
I had changed the headlights a few weeks ago and all was good, but a cable tie I used must of snapped allowing the block connector get trapped in the mechanism.
It looks like the motor kept doing its job but managed to loosen the bolt holding the motor arm.

Everything is now tucked up away and back in place.
Happy days.

Definitely Pops.
Delighted and it gave me an excuse to adjust the light covers to the bonnet better.
Win win.
