Which coolant

Postby Fla » Mon, 06 Jan 2020 9:38 +0000

Hi guys

As part of the “getting the five on the road after half a decade” I need to do a full fluid replacement. I want to change the coolant and I’m getting conflicting information online. I’ve 6 liters of G13 (pink/orange) stuff. My car has the green fluid in it.

So firstly can you use G13 once you flush out the old stuff.

Can you drain the green and put in the orange straight or should you run a bit of distilled water in between both fluids?

Thanks
Fla

As far as I remember its green for older cars (pre 2000 ish) and orange for newer as they've different anti corrosion properties. Manufacturers changed materials through the years for cooling systems (less copper/steel, more alu/nylon).

Don't think mixing is recommended so a hose run through the system wouldn't be a bad idea if you are changing.

Pink stuff is in there now. Flushed out the green and ran it clear with some distilled water. Put in the pink g13 did 150k and she ran cool. So hopefully it’ll be good

Hi John

Thanks a mill. I’m looking forward to seeing all the old gang and meeting the new people too. I’m nearly ready for nct 2.0 now so once she passes that I’ll be out and about again. Car looks well from a distance but the body got damaged by one of the horses but I’m going to drive it while I wait to get a panel or two.

How have you been? Have you still got the original brg?

Good man Fla.
yes still have the BRG, going like a clock too.
Did a few jobs on it last year, replaced the 2 rear calipers and handbrake cables, also a new mohair roof.!

Actually i have to change my coolant, hasnt been done in a while, long overdue.

Cant complain too much Fla, working away and managing to hang on to the 5 still after 16 years.

Regards.
