For sale my 1998 MX5 classic

Postby gwmcfly » Sun, 18 Apr 2010 11:03 +0000

Hi all,

Unfortunately the time has come to part with my beloved MX. I really really really really do not want to sell her but my pregnant wife forces sale! Our first baby is due this July and I guess I gotta grow up sometime, next car probably some woolly handling hatchback :(
Anyway back to the car! This may be the longest advert in history but I want to be as honest as possible, so Ill point out any bad bits I know of too!

The good bits
She is a 1998 "classic" in brilliant black with only 22,500 miles, and yes the miles are right! I have most of the old MOT certificates and a full service history with virtually every docket for any services shes ever had, with the mileage recorded the whole way through. She will be sold with a full years MOT and tax until end of July. Since I bought her (last March/April) she has only done 5500 miles and she has had a new battery and I had 4 wheel alignment done (I also have the results printout for this!). You can check the full classic spec for yourselves but basics are; Power steering, 15" alloys, black leather interior with red stitching, momo leather steering wheel, chrome strut brace etc etc. The photos basically say it all, but the paintwork is very shiny, I am a bit of a freak for polishing and love to have her sitting gleaming.
The interior is unmarked, seats are in first class condition, its like a showroom car inside! It has obviously been exceptionally well cared for throughout its life.
The car was owned by a retired man from Glasgow, who had the car from nearly new I believe, it was only a weekend car to him, and when he passed away his daughter got the car, and it hardly turned a wheel since! I collected the car with 17100 miles on her and its been my everyday car for the last year. She has not missed a beat and drives really nice - tight as a drum!

The bad bits

Look closely and there are a few bits that need correcting to make this car perfect.
1. The rear bumper could do with re-spraying in my opinion. You can notice on one of the photos there is a "L" shaped patch in the centre of the bumper which is slightly discoloured, I believe it may have been a small crack thats been repaired. Its really only visible in sunlight.
2. Small area on the sill in front of the drivers side rear wheel has been repaired previously, and needs done properly. I didnt notice this when I bought the car, but it needs sorted. It is only surface bubbling and Ive had her over the pit and all is clear from the underside - I can put her over the pit to show anyone who comes to view!! I had a painter look at this, and he says it can be locally painted (without spraying the whole panel) and would be a simple repair.
3. Minor stone chips to front end.

I am looking for £3550 for her, there are a few "classics" on sale in Autotrader at the minute in England and they seem to start about £3250 for a 94,000 miler, up to £3970 for a 65,000 miler so I think £3550 is reasonable considering the low mileage of mine, and the few bad bits!
If anyone is interested, I have loads more photos which I can email, just send me a PM with your email address.
