garage vary nostalgic rear panels

Postby charged_rs » Fri, 31 Aug 2012 5:37 +0000

im going to be doing a run of 7 of these soon and was wondering if anyone fancied a panel or 2 ?

i can supply the bare panel so you can source your own lights or i can supply lights for £80

the panel will be £155 sterling

will look like this but with slightly different lights ( it still has the reverse light)
Image

i have tried to source the original mazda portercab light units but they are discontinued and hard to get .... there are some stocks left in Japan but they are £120 each plus delivery +tax , so i am using a different light

the lights im using are from a SPYKER and saleen

Image - the outer lights - stop , tail and indicator

you will need to source your own lights

Interested but have a few questions.

Will these be genuine GV panels or are you getting some replicas made up?

Are the Saleen lights the same diamater as the original ones?

Will you be able to get some pics of the panels with the saleen lights fitted, they look quite a bit thicker than the original lights.

Thanks

Nice look, although not my cup of tea. Then again, it would look awesome with one for those Porsche front light conversions.

In the picture of the Mazda it seems like the indicator is red. WIll the indicator be orange like on the Saleen? It is a MOT/NCT fail to have red indicator lights here down south.

there are only 7 maybe 8 being made then thats it.

I have 8 daihatsu midget reverse lights on order and have 8 pairs of the saleen lamps

I will make 8 panels ( 1 is already accounted for) so that leaves 7

if they are still here in a few months then no probs but they are likely to sell very quickly once i stick them on a few other sites....this is the only place ive advertised them.

at this price they are replicas... the cost to buy this panel ( just the panel ) was under £400 , £383 i think was the total after import tax

The saleen lights are very similar size and look a lot better than the portercab light units.
I will have pics of the lights fitted soon as the panel is currently being prepared for molding.
I might actually be able to grab a pic or 2 of them before the weekend.

Are reverse lights part of the NCT ? in the north and UK there is no mandatory requirement (mot)for a reverse lamp so the miget light could be left out and that part of the panel smoothed over

The saleen lights arent as thick as the portercab units , i think you are seeing the saleen housing.

this is the light unit

as you can see the lens is really quite slimline and thats all you will see of the lamp

Ah ok, I thought the housing was being used aswell, though I assume there will be some form of bulb housing that will sit behind the panel?
Is there much difference in diameter between the Saleen and Portercab lights? Portercabs are 128mm iirc.

Not sure on the NCT requirements will have to look into it.

Pics would be great if you get a chance

portercab lights are 133mm diameter btw ;)

the saleen lights look much nice in my opinion , but then its all a bit subjective really.

pics will come soon

Am I right in thinking these use 2 different tail lights as per the pic?

no... i was just playing around with another light unit i have here

So far the feedback i have had is that people just want the panel and want to source their own light units...so thats cool with me.
All 7 will be made for next friday - 2 are sold already so that leaves 5 left
