Front hub nut 29mm socket

Postby austin99 » Tue, 22 Mar 2011 1:41 +0000

Hi there,
I'm new here... I have an MX5 with a front wheel bearing that is making some pretty ugly noises. I've sourced a replacement hub which includes the wheel bearing but the problem I have is that the hub nut requires a 29mm socket (I've no idea why Mazda opted for 29mm instead of a standard size like 30mm)...
So I was wondering if there was anyone in the Dublin area (I'm in Dublin 8) who'd have a 29mm socket 1/2" drive or 3/4" drive and bar that I could borrow? I'll happily leave a deposit behind as well. The job is a simple one which should take 30 mins I reckon so I'll have it returned in no time at all.

Many thanks,
Austin

Hi austin.

29 is an odd size, Dave from here has one that fits as I used it on mine but hes down here in Waterford. Maybe a local motorfactors stock them or friendly garage might lend you one.

Thanks for the replies. I rang around a few places including a local kwikfit and nothing doing....so I thought I'd chance my arm and ring the breakers yard where I got the part to see if they'd lend it out. He used a 30mm 6-sided socket to get it out and it came out relatively easily. I might try that tonight and see what happens

Thanks for the offer - I'll try and improvise with the 30....although I have to go buy a 6 point 30mm as the one I have is a 12 point one and would in all likelihood round the nut. If it ain't working out, I'll drop you a PM. Thanks again
