Mine has started to whine, Hoping to rebuild it, just for the experience as I presume it's very difficult to do right.
Does anyone know of where to get one cheap, also thinking about upgrading to the 1.8 diff as I know the 1.6's are not known for dealing with more power without blowing up (I'm having turbo thoughts..).

Just go 1.8 and rebuild the 1.6 with no pressure

Actually, on further investigation, not sure - it might be the gearbox - see thread in Engine/Drivetrain section.

Pity you are in Cork as I have 1.8 gearbox with 44k on it and diff to suit, get back to me before 22nd as I am away to Japan for 10 days then, Paul

Done. Got one from Great Island Motors in Cobh (they're breaking one for anyone looking). €80 for a diff wasn't bad.
Fitting the thing was a dose though. Managed it in a day. Back to enjoying my 5 now.
