I know it was posted somewhere before, can't find it.

I need a list of parts required to replace timing belt and water pump please
mk1 1.6 :P

I'm replacing these on the basis of preventive maintenance. Not sure if they were ever done before, but better safe than sorry

Will also be replacing alternator and a/c belts at same time.

Anything else I should be looking at in that area??

John,

Don't forget the power steering belt, and the tension pullies - of course when Frank and Steve did mine on my MKI - all those years ago - it appeared that in fact the belt had been changed but whoever did it did'nt mark the outside of the casing - so it was impossible to tell until the belt was exposed - oh don't forget the waterpump and new gaskets.

Thanks guys, Ash is correct, mine's a manual.
On a point of interest, why is it necessary to lock the cam on an auto when changing timing belt?

I think on a manual you stick the car in 5th and hit the brakes to hold the cam but you cant do that in an auto so you need to hold it some other way hence the tool.
