Ann,
I would not be worried about a hardtop for the winter.
Your roof is in perfect nick, only really need a hartop for security.

TBH a hardtop can be a pain,
It's heavy enough to take on and off
You have to find somewhere to store it.
It can creak and make noises....i could go on

there are plus points but don't just get one for the winter.

Really?? I have been advised to get one...I could honestly do without the expense of buying one this winter as well so maybe I'll see how I get on first.

Had a bit of fright last night with strange woman lurking about outside (thank God for our dog who gave her a fright right back!) and thought maybe I should get one for security alone.

I'll leave it for a while though...thanks for the advise.

Really? Right well I'll see how I get on for the mo then ...another issue I had was parking it in the City so I thought a hard top might allow me to have me coffee in total peace...but sure if it save me a couple of yo yo's I'll suffer this winter and work it out from there...thanks Hilly. :)

Hi Ann, don't have a hard top myself but did think about looking for one, think if someone is going to break in or damage a car it won't make much difference what roof you have on. I think it's more about not leaving thing out on view i.e. phones, gps's, sunglass's and the likes. If they want to steal the car it will be gone regardless.... Lost a few bit's in the past not from my car but van and I live in the country. Location isn't everything.

I do like the facted I can chuck back the roof at anytime, I think the hardtop might get in the way of that... and I also see the problems storing it and didn't fancy the hassel. But if I got one for the RIGHT price who knows. But think a fresh canvse would be a better in vestment for me.

Thanks Sabik, this is my full time car and I will be in the city a good bit however I can park in a car park where it will be safer etc. My canvas is in reasonably good nick so should be ok. Like you if one turned up at the right price or cheap then I mihgt go for it...in the meantime I'll listen to the patter of rain on my canvas instead, quiet cosey actually.

Thanks
A :)

Hello Ann.
I do not know what security you have on your 5 but I went for a Clifford alarm after considering a lot of options. The general opinion on the clifford is that your car wont be driven away and with the proximity sensor even cats dont get too close. Its still possible for someone to rip the roof but the alarm will go off before they get the blade through the soft top.In these times it may be possible to get a good deal on installation, especially as the 5 must be one of the easiest cars to do.
Regards,
Peter.

Thanks, I have an immobiliser with seperate key on the 5 called 'auto watch'. I'll look up the Clifford alarm though. :D

I'd still keep an eye out for one though Ann, if you don't like it you can always sell it immediately here ;-)

I love 'em! Great in winter.

Hey Tom, yes I did and meant to pm you last night. They do really look good..I was watching them online but wasn't sure what colour I was going to get so I checked out the website and they do a very professsional looking job. I'm thinking I might ask for them for Christmas!!! Are you thinking of getting a set?

Ann :D

Wonder would they do some sort of deal for 2 sets or maybe more...might give them a call and see, saying that it'll be a little while yet before I can get them.

Will post up what they say shortly.
