Was that you on the M50 this morning in the black and tan ?

I was a couple of cars behind you, saw the debris of the rock - just managed to avoid it myself ! Was hoping it was one of the other cars that hit it and not yours...

Sorry to hear...

You can JBweld the sump okay, maybe that would get you by. It's held my turbo oil-drain in place for 8 years.

That rock was f***ing huge ! And that's just the debris that was rolling across the road after you had hit it

Geese,
This car is on ebay viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2442
if you got it for the right money, take the engine for yourself , and the rest of the bits when you break the car will cover your expences.
Just a thought.

Ouch! Not a small job to replace either.. think it might be easier to pull the engine than drop the subframe.

Actually, if you're talking to the council (or whatever they are called in Dublin) re. a claim or anything, you can use me as a witness. You had *just* completed a move from lane 2 to lane 1, so wouldn't have had a chance to see the rock or even jam the brakes on given the 0830h traffic. That rock was about 6 inches square, so I'd say you felt it all along the underside of the car, not just the engine.

Ah. chasing the council I wonder...

So
option 1 get a new sump... Subframe off or Engine out
Option 2 repair the sump... Unlikely

OPtion 3 get an engine.
OPtion 4 get a whole car .

Thinking of option 4 at the moment. Anyone want to pool in on a complete car? I just want teh engine really. Well sump.

Option 1 looks good if you're not too keen to replace the car, and that one on e-bay is not very expensive.
Engine out?? Maybe call a tech day and provide plenty of tea/coffee etc, surely a few heads put together would solve this one??? If I'm available, I'll supervise the tea-making operation  . Ivan should be finished with his home-made table by then

On the other hand, you could buy the sump and maybe someone knows a good mechanic who'd be interested?? Just a thought........

Depends on how much time and space you have I guess..

Option 1 + dropping the subframe would prob be what I'd do.

oh, check your diff too for damage.. my first one died after being cracked open by a crowbar (it fell off the trailer in front of me..).

Engine for sale here - http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38772
£150 asking but now taking offers. If the seller put it on a pallet, you'd get it to Dublin for €50ish possibly. I know a courier guy who's good. Pm me for details if reqd.
