Help - Hood Needed ASAP - Soft Top Slashed Last Night

Hi there
Unfortunately some scumbags decided to try and take my car (2001 Silver Mk2 1.8 with black roof) last night from outside the house (city centre) and made a fantastic job of slashing the roof - have tried duck tape as a temp fix but its already peeling off. When I mentioned it to the Kevin St Guards there were other hoods slashed in the area last night so looks like someone has a shopping list for a convertible.
If anyone has a hard or a soft top for sale that I can collect today or tomorrow please let me know as soon as you can. Can collect. Wary of leaving the car the way it is overnight again.
Thanks
Steph

Heard from another owner who had his roof slashed last night in Dublin too, not attempt at theft just pure vandalism

last night windows were smashed and wing mirrors broken in a few cars around the shop where i work plus a few windows of houses and the local pub were smashed, we have what looks like 3 teens on our cameras doing it, its getting worse, the guards have a hard job trying to catch these scumbags and when they do all that happens is a little warning or something, its a joke, what they need is good going over with a baseball bat or something

Hi again everyone, thanks for all the replies and PMs.

A bit of an update for y'all which might be of help to anyone unfortunate to have a similar problem in future.
I decided not to replace the roof immediately in case there was a second attempt on the car, so I've put a temporary seal on the roof (as well as a huge chain and lock around the steering wheel).

I found a product called Tear-Aid and it worked really well as a seal for the slashes in the roof (10 inches each direction). I bought it from here for Stg£20 http://repairproducts.co.uk/page27.htm and they were fast to deliver (and I'm in no way associated with them so this is not a plug!) I also used a product called Storm Sure just above the window where they slashed the stitching.

My artistic skills are non existant so it looks pretty awful :( but at least its waterproof and has kept the weather and the wind out over the past few weeks. :)

I'm still in the market for a replacement hard silver top or soft top - so if anyone has any contacts as to where I might pick one up second hand, let me know. Current roof is black vinyl and car is silver.

Thanks again
Steph

Sorry to hear about the vandalism to your car  , I have a Silver hard top; I bought it for my Mk1 and repainted it about 2 years ago.

It's in very good condition, with the heated rear screen etc. If you fancy it and want to make me an offer, send me a pm. I can get you pictures if you want them. At least with a hard top it won't get sliced again.
