Traynors oop north would surly have an engine. Would be good to see/hear it working before you coimmit to buy and also know the milage on it.
Know a few people who have fitted an engine only to find out it wasn't right. Would break your heart.

Sean, how have you determined that the engine is knackered?

Hi John, there was quite a bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust,a buddy of mine said a piston ring is gone.Engine has been burning quite a lot of oil for last few months, but this is the first time i noticed the plumes of smoke coming from the rear  On sundays run,i passed Fergus and when he went past me moments later he looked like a black and white minstrel

ouchy... black/brown = usually overfuelling, blue = usually oil (like 2 strokes).
What kinda boost are you running with the turbo?

Give Traynor's (www.traynors.co.uk) a bell for an engine, they've loads of '5s in at the mo' (might be interesting to stick a mk2 engine in there while you are at it ;-) )

He's running 6PSI but for some reason he was still getting major ping with the timing dropped down to the standard setting for the Greddy kit.
I told ya to stop boosting Seanie until you got the timing sorted
Ah well.
I mentioned about fitting a 1.8 engine in, thinking of doing something like that myself 8)

The setting for a GReddy turbo is 6 degrees not the factory setting of 10 though...

Out of curiosity, was that with or without an intercooler/larger injectors?

6PSI with 6 degress timing set for the standard Greddy kit which he has installed (by meself 8) ).
Standard 1.6 injectors, no intercooler.
I couldn't believe the amount of ping when I drove the car myself weeks ago, it shouldn't have been there at all.
I think the wee little 'matrix spin' we went on really blew a ring to bits though as I had changed his oil that morning (only about 2L came out of it BLACK and GRITTY...probably metal from the engine). When it started blowing smoke the oil on the rear bumper was NEW oil and not black stuff.
The clutch may have played a part in it as it was spinning and needed to be replaced (it still does) high revs etc when hitting boost.
We don't know the history of the car/engine so perhaps there was something wrong with it before installing the Greddy kit, I had replaced the front shocks when he got it and done the usual basic service etc.
That place in England gives a warranty on their engines and fully inspect them when they arrive from Japan before selling.
I'd love to stick a 1.8 in mine as I've learned a lot on turbo'ing that engine over the last few years :D
