Supposed to have good one in approx 2 weeks. Its RS engine with PB5A cam but not confirmed purchase yet and its in UK for transport etc

I have VVT engines that will fit but you need to either buy small VVT controller (extra power) or use your existing cylinder head. VVT bottom end /block has better compression ratio also so bit quicker than standard mk2 bottom end/block. Check ebay for VVT controllers but I think they are from US not UK as such
Something like this
Detailed Description

Standalone VVT controller for Mazda 01-05 MX5 Miata engine

"The VVTuner system is a black box that controls the variable valve timing on 2001-2005 MX-5 Miata engines. This one also translates the NB crank and cam sensor signals into NA style signals, making it perfect for swapping the VVT head into earlier Miatas. Can be used with the MegaSquirt or on its own to custom tune your variable valve timing. Comes preloaded with base map to get started."

Uses Innovate-style tuning cable, sold separately. Includes a solder cup DB15 connector for making your own harness. 18" pigtail harnesses optional.

Download VVT Controller software (.zip file)

BP5A Jap engine has the most power and is probably more reliable. VVT only alters torque curve and helps emissions . The 98-00 ones are the ones to go for if thinking of going turbo later on.
The perfection of a Car's beauty is that nothing should be there for beauty's sake.
