Decoy, can I recommend that you turn off at Kilcullen and take the old n9 ( not sure what new number is on the road now)to Carlow, a much more interesting road for mx5 driving and now with little or no traffic,Route:..Kilcullen, Kilgowan, Castledermot, Carlow.

Was on a way to Waterford from Dublin after 10am, notice the post only now. Was thinking of taking a "coastal" road with the top down but the day in Dublin was gray in the morning so decided just to get to Waterford as quick as possible via M9. Quick but boring. So, N9 might be nice way to try?

Yeah, I'd say if you're not tied to time take the old road...same applies to most motorway alternatives as far as I'm concerned. The last time I drove the M9 I nearly fell asleep at the wheel...and that was in the afternoon!!..SO boring.

Can't beat the motorway for speed though, made it from my house to newlands in 1.50 yesterday morning, leaving at 4.30am helped though!!!

Well yeah, it turned out a beautiful day on Saturday, as soon as I got on M9 after Newbridge clouds disappeared and my phone in the holder overheated - first time that this happened in Ireland, need to leave Dublin more often. :-)

Ok, so the N9 next time. Btw,it doesn't seem there's much of the old N9 left according to Google maps. It goes from Killcullen to Castledermot and then on to M9 again.

No, the old N9 and it's towns and villages are still there, unless they've emigrated to Australia along with half the population
