Sunday spin

Postby paulc » Mon, 23 Jan 2012 12:07 +0000

Had a great spin today. I had to go up to the Glen of Aherlow this morning to visit some of my caravanning friends. I should have been away for the weekend in my caravan with them but Saturday just got too busy so I couldn't make the weekend. I left Cork around eleven and got up to the Glen of Aherlow in under an hour. I was back on the road after lunch, around three, travelling back via Tipperary town, Galbally and Mitchelstown. I didn't want to travel on the motorway to Cork so I took the road to Ballyporeen, on to Clogheen and then over the Vee. Anyone who is familiar with this road knows that it can be fun and by the time I got to the hairpin bend almost at the end of the rise I had the 5 singing. Hitting second coming into the hairpin I was ready to open it up for the final assent, but as I rounded the bend I came on a group of 50 to 60 classic cars and bikes parked up and enjoying the scenery. I have no doubt they had full view of the lunatic in the MX5 coming their way. I hope I made their day. Once over the Commeraghs I headed down to Lismore, Tallow and on to Midleton via Dungourney and home on the final piece of the N25. The 5 is now quietly ticking away to itself in the driveway, content in itself that it has made it's owner happy once again. A spin like this makes me want to sell the BMW motorbike sitting unused in the garage. The 5 is safer to drive, practically as quick and I think at this stage in my life a hell of a lot safer. A very enjoyable day in deed.
