I took my car to work today

Postby paulc » Tue, 04 Sep 2012 9:17 +0000

I had a few Wind Farms to visit today in Co Kerry, so seeing as the weather was so good I took the MX5.

The Gap of Dunloe, early in the morning.

Rush hour, Kerry style!

Going through Knocklomena Pass

Image
Lunch stop at Ballaghisheen Pass, having just left a wind farm above Cahersiveen on Knockaneden mountain.

Image
Glencar Lake heading across the county for Dromada Mountain outside Listowel.

They sure are big when you are near them.

Just before I head for home.

I did just over 270 miles today, covering some incredible roads and drop dead scenery. The car never missed a beat and returned just over 41 miles to the gallon. An enjoyable day!

No Rhyse, not me. This is a favourite road for car rallying so I guess the boy racers do their stuff there as well. It must be an age thing but despite driving it on for a good bit of the day (my version anyway) I was more pleased to have topped 40 MPG than anything else. I know - dead boring. By the way I must organise a visit to your lock up to view progress, Kevin, my son, still has ideas of doing something with a 5 if he can sell the C2 GTS. I might PM you some time?

I have done the gap of dunloe /black valley/molls run a few times in a saloon how would you think a 25mm lowered 5 would cope?last time I was up there the dunloe section in particular was very poor.

Unfortunately Pat the surface in unbelievable bad at this stage. I walked it about three years ago and it was ok, but not at this stage. I stayed along the valley instead of coming up by Molls Gap and this part has grass along the middle that would maroon any lowered car, so I would not recommend it. The road out to Glencar, out pass the Climbers Inn is very good and twisty enough to keep anyone entertained.I came back from Cahersiveen along this road and it was fun.
As for the job, it was a long time in the planning and I am probably chained to the desk for the next month again.
