Induction

Postby mrges » Thu, 29 Jan 2009 12:30 +0000

Lads (and lassies) - I know this is a "Turbo" thread, but couldn't think where else to put this.

Anyone have any info/advice on one of these:

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id/1104

It came with this weeks "Special offers" mail from MX5 parts. I'm sure I've seen pictures of similar items fitted to some of your cars. The reviews are generally positive (and fitting would seem to be something I might undertake....).

Is the difference noticeable (how does it affect the power delivery)?

How might it differ from this model:

As I say, any information/comments etc. would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Unless the MK3 has a particularly restrictive intake system, which I doubt, then you unlikely to notice much if anything.

There won't be any great negatives, apart from the lightness of your wallet, but as for power and torque, not that you will feel.

You will most likely have a very pleasing induction roar under full throtle and you may find that you get a freer top end in that the engine doesn't run out of puff and spins readily to the red line, but all in all if you were to see 4 bhp I think you would be lucky, more likely 1 or 2.

Frank - ever the optimist!!!! I saw this on their mail as well - but don't think I could manage to persuade the other half that £3448.85 would be money well spent in the current economic climate (although that price does incclude VAT!!!).

Thanks for the advice lads - I think I might be keeping the wedge in me pocket for a while longer then.

I've just gotten the K&N version & started fitting last night - it got too cold in the garage. If nothing else, it does get rid of that big air-box!

Finished fitting the K&N. No bother really (even for me - once I'd discovered the little wire retainer on the AFM plug. Nice sound & seems (to me at least) to rev smoother. Reckon I'd equate it to giving up smoking & getting a new lung - you might not be able to run faster, but your pleased with the notion that you might :)
