retard timing question

Postby ger » Sun, 27 Jul 2008 12:57 +0000

what is a good final retard at standard greddy boost (5.5psi i think) using 97 to 99 octane petrol. I started at 14 down to 6, yesterday i tried out a final setting of 8.

I have the bipipes set to start retarding at 2500 rpm and full retard at 3800rpm

fergus are you running 10 degress under boost?

Is dis da retarddad post ? Do I gotta post somephink up ear now or wha ? Why yu askin me abot timeings an all dat stuff, tis to feckin complacateded, wha da I no abot dis time thingy thing ding.

But, yes I am running with 10 degrees timing and 6PSI with no intercooler (sleeper setup just now....soon to change) and no Bipes etc.
Works fine, always has except when I got a crap load of fuel in my tank. Never went back to that place. Oh and BTW, dont bother to pay that little bit extra for that fuel with the 'extra' octane in it cause tis crap. Normal unleaded is just fine which is way better then the stuff they use in the IS....IF your engine was fine before fitting the Turbo that is (remember Seanie ?).

(PS) Dont know about using the Bipes with the Greddy kit. But if your running 5.5 - 6PSI without Bipes then the timing should be at 6 degress base, that is down from the factory setting of 10 degrees.

(PPS) But I'm set at 10

Maxol are selling E5 on all their pumps now its 95 unleaded with 5% bio-ethanol its rated at 99 octane, the claim its safe for all unleaded cars and costs the same as regular unleded.

I have run a few tanks of this and it seems fine.

My point being better fuel less chance of knock at higher timing

base timing of 8 makes a quite a difference, gave the car a bit of a lashing on the way to dublin yesterday, no knock or pinking.

Question for the turbo guys...
How much more , if at all, is your fuel consumption on average, in comparison with the normally aspirated engines??
Would really fancy a turbo version at some time in the future but the way that fuel prices have been heading would have me thinking again :? :?

Thanks for that guys, there's a surprise for me...better economy when turbo'd...Hmmm

I suppose a lot of it is down to driving style , along with all the other factors.
