Hey Lads,

any chance you could post up some pics of your setup. Wanna get some idea of what you cats have done with regard to positioning of the intake filter.

Just really looking for some ideas.

Stupid Turbo installs. You barely have it on the car and you start wondering about things that might improve it

I had a pipe off the turbo which put the filter behind the passenger side headlight which worked well, kinda like this :

but the new K&N doesn't fit so just have it clamped to the turbo now. I've seen this done with the AFM attached too somewhere..

Think I heard of someone on this forum selling 1.8 injectors too.. They happen to plug straight into a 1.6 .. which would let one with a GReddy run 8psi safely.. if one were so inclined.. (stick in the boost gauge too, I've a feeling you aren't running 7psi yet.. just screw in the actuator rod on the turbo to up the boost a little)

Fitting the boost guage on saturday so we'll see what boost she's doing then.

Have seen photos of the filters straight on to the turbo alright. Is that a good idea considering the heat off the turbo?
To be honest where mine is now is probably fine for the moment.

I'm still a bit concerned by the sound of the engine though. It's very putt putt putty. Like a Volks bus. I'll change the oil and plugs when it stops bleedin raining. Hopefully that will help. Drives very smoothly just the noise is odd.

putt putty in a lumpy/"one cylinder not firing" kinda way or.. an exhaust leak kinda way? Any exhaust smells?

If its lumpy, let the car idle, then pull each ignition lead off each sparkplug in turn to see which one it is. Might just need reseating..

I know what it is, one of the manifold bolts is loose - some of them were a pain to get at so were 'tightened' but not 'torqued'

I'll tighten them on Saturday

The turbo heatsheild is from flyin miata 60$ + pp
The air filter heastsheild i got on ebay for a tenner.
The ducting is 2 1/4 inch this will go down to the mouth in the nose cone, i used a u bend from an outside drain for the pick-up
Extra heat cloth from murray motorsport sold by the meter.

You should rap the AC pipes near the down pipe and the water bottle.
If you need vacuum tube for you boost gauge murray motorsports have 3m of silicone for about a tenner.

Where the air filter is located now is actually one of the cooler spots under the hood.

That's great Ger. Same setup as mine (filter wise). I'm going up to Murray's on thursday eve to get some heatwrap and tubing.

I'll have a proper look at your ducting on saturday.

Don't forget about that little $&%^ bracket that gets caught between head and manifold near the rear lower stud
