Quiet around here lately.

Anyone know what is the max boost std injectors are good for?
At the moment i have 6psi with base timing of 9 degrees.
Is there any advantage in running more timing/less boost or visa versa.
I know my options are limited due to the Stock ECU, but i would like to get the most out of what I have at the mo. I can alter timing to pull down from 12-2 degrees from base, and adjust the amount of fuel the injectors get prior to WOT.

Spec is greddy with FMIC, Bipes Settings Base timing 14 degrees pull to 9 at full boost with a 3-4k RPM map (Basically pulls timing under full load above 3K with full timing retard at 4K, then puts a bit back in after 5k.
O2 clamp (gets the pre boost/WOT fuel in, stops the factory mid range leaning out of the air/fuel ratio) 2.5" cat back exhaust, no cat.

Any ideas welcome, not much money to spend though so no lavish links.

Also, is there a cheap BOV that will not leak on idle?

Its a slippery slope. I must get around to buying a WBO2 and MS PNP but for now…

Got a 2.5" catpipe? ;-)

I think Frank has some 1.8 injectors for small money too.. plug n play & up the boost by twisting the rod on the can a few turns.

Not sure about timing vs boost.. I hate messing with timing, too dangerous.

The old "Twisting the rod on the can " trick eh?????

That's bound to get it sorted alright

Can someone please publish a glossary of terms from the darkside?..one page only allowed

ECU-Electronic control unit
FMIC-Front mounted intercooler
WOT-Wide open throttle (when the ECU takes over fuel management at 4K rpm)
BOV-Blow off valve
WBO2-Wide band O2 sensor
MS PNP-Mega Squirt Plug n play (replacement ECU)

My de cat is 60mm not going to bother changing it for 3mm.
I would be interested in cheap 1.8 injectors though, should see me safely up to 8psi.

Ivan I see you are as intelligent as you are good looking. :D

After fitting the front mounted intercooler I increased the base timing from a conservative 6 degrees up to 9 with no audible knock.

Frank PM me if you can help.

OK I 've a few questions so!

It seems everyone is running Greddy kits but has anyone heard anything about the Garrett turbos?

I'm thinking the T25 would give a nice low-lag boost but max out around the 180-200BHP mark so maybe a T3/T4 Hybrid would be better? There's a T25 on adverts.ie for €150 he'd probably take less...

How much can the stock 1.8 diff/clutch/injectors handle?

If the exact same kit is put into a 1.6 and 1.8 and both run at say, 6 PSI, will the 1.8 generate more HP?

If you were building a turbo kit which components would you buy first? Or does it really matter? (Thinking ECU 1st myself)

MS PnP or LINK?

In assuming you ran the turbo without the FMIC first ger? What snail are you running btw?

Most importantly, how do they get the figs in the fig rolls?

Hi ghettosmurf,

If you were building a turbo kit which components would you buy first? Or does it really matter? (Thinking ECU 1st myself)

If i were doing it again i would probably go for the ECU first, MS PNP would be my choice, get rid of the AFM and learn how to tune.

In assuming you ran the turbo without the FMIC first ger? What snail are you running btw?

The greddy use a mitsubishi TDO4, its a nice small turbo spools up fast with little or no lag. Running it without an intercooler is less than ideal especially on muggy summer days, you have to listen out for knock or go extra conservative on timing.

if the exact same kit is put into a 1.6 and 1.8 and both run at say, 6 PSI, will the 1.8 generate more HP?

I'd imagine so, though the early 1.6 engine is designed for forced induction.

How much can the stock 1.8 diff/clutch/injectors handle

The 1.8 diff seems to be able to take some abuse, the clutch should be good for 6psi if its newish, not sure on the injectors, i know 1.8's are good for 8psi on a 1.6.

As far as i know the HKS kit uses a T25, you could look for a manifold there.

Most importantly, how do they get the figs in the fig rolls?

nobody knows.

Good luck with the build
