for my 1.8 mk1 , what would i be looking at?

That really depends on what kind of power you want to get to, a second hand turbo could be got for €800-1000 for basic set up. after that you are talking better ecu, clutch, brakes, fit intercooler..........

If your going to get one from there then get a second hand one.

would 2 k do it all - the hardware and labour?
also, would my brakes need upgrading on the 1.8 - i read somewhere they are uprated from the 1.6anyways or is this wrong?

You have a 1.8 so bigger brakes fitted, along with stronger diff, and iirc clutch. Basically a good starting point.

GReddy kit from many sources, the exchange rates will really work in your favour at the mo' (Fergus, where did you pick yours up from?) so you should be able to pick one up NEW for around 1000e.

Am v.happy with my GReddy, it works well (lots of fun, will give you a spin the next time we meet) and has been quite reliable.

Kits from www.Flyinmiata.com are above your budget I'm afraid..

If I was doing it again, I'd DIY it and buy all the bits seperately. Speaking of which.. I may know of a GReddy turbo for sale if you are interested..
Then pick up the manifold linked above, oil lines, boost guage, a downpipe from ebay and you could run it at 6psi straight away.

What labour? do it yourself man.
I wouldn'tr have though that your insurance will be that bad, just make sure you declare everything.

Oh definately put it in yourself! For a couple of reasons.. 1) its easy, 2)labour is expensive and 3) when something goes wrong (and it will have a couple of teething issues) you know how to fix it.

Insurance, get a friendly garage to give you an engineering report (as in a "yes this looks properly installed to me" letter)
Put it on the dyno (Westward engineering will do it for you) and get a print out of how much power you are putting out. Send a copy of this to the insurance company too.
