Ive decided to go with the turbo, partly because the supercharger i was after is sold. I will be ordering the greddy kit with the upgrade option from mad later,

Anything else i might need?
Can i get gauges to fir the air vents, boost ect?
Do i need a blow off valve (I have to say i dont like the sound, its a bit nackery but then i live in glanza land)

Cool! Nice one! Great idea getting all the mods done before you get the kit!
You'll be needing a timing gun for the install (don't want you blowing your engine).
1.8lt injectors wouldn't do any harm (but aren't vital).
Boost guage, I have the first one on this page (fits into the air vent) :

Yes, best to get a blow off/bypass valve, but there is good news, you can/should recirculate the pressure instead using a Vent To Atmosphere blow off valve, its the best way to do it on a car with a Mass AirFlow meter, plus you won't get the "PISSSSSSSSSHHHHH" sound when you change gear. Same system in most Saabs, Volvos, Porsches, etc
You'll need a bypass valve, like this one on ebay :

Put the valve on after the turbo and before the intake manifold.
Attach a pipe of some sort to the other end of your blow off valve.
Then connect it to the intake tube BEFORE the turbo but after the MAF.
When the Bypass valve vents, the metered air will recirculate back into the intake, this will ensure that you don't go REALLY rich on lift off as that air has already been metered. Plus will avoid compressor stall + keep the turbo spinning (to avoid any lag).

thanks for the info.
I have ordered the modified kit from mx5mad along with a timing controller that allows the timing to remain at 14 degress off boost, it then retards the timing under boost, not quite sure how it works but the guy from mad reckons that it cutts down on lag and allows the car run as is at the mol when not boosting.
I will be fitting the kit the week after next as i am moving to wicklow next week.
Anybody in the dublin/wicklow/wexford area into lending a hand or some experience? can provide food/drink/accom could even run a mini tech day as i think we have a bit of space.

Nice purchase ! You'll be VERY happy with it
Timing control - you probably have a Bipes unit which is excellent for the Greddy kit.
You don't 'really' need a bov, the boost guage is handy and worth getting.
One thing I would have to say to get is a replacement steel oil return line and tap it into the sump instead of later on when the standard kit parts start leaking and driving you MAD

steve i looked at thos gauges there a bit more expensive that i thought, around 50-80 stg, i found this one on ebay it has a matching oil temp gauge so i can fill the two center vents, what do you think.

A stainless return line comes with his kit. That said.. mine is still fine after 5 years.. no leaks either..

Am suprised the Autometer is expensive.. I don't remember it being so.
Yeah, that one might do, don't know how accurate it is though. As Fergus said, prob best to get the good one..
Have to disagree with you on not needing one Fergus, you have to keep an eye on your boost.. you know that little tube on the turbo? If that leaks/splits, there will be no boost control causing your turbo to spike up way too high .. that will do v.nasty things to the engines internals v.quickly..
It also helps to know that you are developing the boost you think you are making and you can see whether you have a vac leak at idle.

I didn't know that Mx5Mad changed the extras for the kit to include the return lines, must have only changed that recently since Seanie got the kit with the extras but there wasn't any mention of the line etc.

your right fergus its false economy, ive ordered some autometer gauges from p5, my budget is running low and i dont think it will stretch to a bov, i can fit that later. Anyway i'm sure there is more than enough work to do.
I'm still looking for some fitting experience, i will be able to work on the car from mon 14th to the sun the 20th as i'm off for a week. I had an engineer friend lined up but he broke his hand the other day, im sure hes still availabe for smart comments though.
Also i need some advice on removing the aircon and wiring in the second fan to the main one.
By the way i will be selling my racing beat hi-flow intake, i have only good things to say about it, great bhp and a wonderfull intake sound, with a headlight vent its easilly as good as a JR CAI, i'll pop all the bits in the for sale section next week.

Hi Ger,
Its easy enough to remove the aircon, go and have the gas removed, then start at the front and work your way back.
The turbo install is easy enough too. All nuts n bolts, wd-40 everything in advance (especially the cat bolts and header bolts!!). Drain your oil.. bolt it all on.. it shouldn't take too long..
I didn't do the "oil drain to pan" oil return line so not too sure on it, think its just a matter of drilling in the right spot (don't drill too deep!!), tapping it and screwing in the fitting.

fergus you've done the oil return, is it easy to make a boll*ks of it?
I have to say do feel a bit nervous abot drilling and tapping the sump.
