I do believe that the missfire count is electrical but I'm trying to rule out the easy stuff first, I've seen a post somewhere about a bad wire going to the coil causing the same problem

That wasn't the one that connects under the intake manifold by any chance?

Hi Steve, no it was from the dipstick to the air box.
Fixed all the leaks now, I didn't do anything with the vacuum unit though as it turned out to be the actual vacuum pump, I think the vac leak from it might be a pressure relief so I left it alone for now, with the relief plugged and then retested I couldn't find any more leaks, I did check under the manifold where you mentioned Steve and seems to be all ok

This German is getting a bit annoying now as I had to take the mazda out so I could get the slk in the shed, now it's pissing rain on the poor mx5

The German is gone, replaced by a hondaImage
