I have a buddy who is a welder and I think he can make hitches for a good price, he wants to buy one before he copies it.
In order to make it worth his while he'd need to sell a few.
If you are interested (not a commitment to buy) in buying one for about 120 Euros please ad your name to this list.

Before putting my name to this one, is there an option for , say, a tow hitch with easily removable ball(  ) section, if you know what i mean. If I had a towbar it would be for VERY occasional use, so would not be keen to have it visible all the time..I think Frank's is kinda like that??
I'll put my name down, and as you say it's not a commitment to buy yet.

Should be an easy job - mine bolts in to the pre-drilled and threaded points that the rear tow-down hooks used. Think I paid STG80 for mine back in '96

If you can do them for the MK2 you're on to a winner, there always seems to be more people asking about them

Oh yes perfect for our annual camping trip - I wonder how much it would be to build your own - €2500 seems a bit steep - even with a built in shower

This thread has reminded me of the only disappointment I experienced when I brought my new Mk2 home almost 10 years ago. There is a page in the owners manual which says "Do Not Tow Anything With Your MX5".
This message from the manufacturer is the reason why none of the towbar manufacturers offer one for any MX5 born after 1999 and probably means that towing with any of these cars would be illegal and would void your insurance
I had made myself a folding trailer tent to tow behind my Triumph Spitfire 1500 on a towbar I had designed and made for it. http://homepage.eircom.net/~tommorrow/index.htm
I had been planing on adapting it to suit the higher level of the mx5 boot lid, but since reading that page the trailer tent has sat at home redundant

This one would be for a MK1, he's a guy with a shed that does very good work but, no MOT rating or anything just a part that fits on and tows stuff. I'm not sure about legality but I do have a friend who I will ask that has an expertise in this field and will update this string.
Drive safe, and oh yeah from my own experience, don't tow a kid on the m7 with your mx5, especially if they are on a trike, it's not as safe as it seems.

Providing it's removable and nothing visible on removal I'd be very interested at that rate.

Came across this while looking for something else (story of my life I guess!)

He made this to be removable - see his post

Looks simple and straightforward....?

Yea, Unfortunately I've just found out that you can't legally put a trailer on a MK2, MK1 & 3 are ok though.

Bugger!
