Hi all,

Any suggestions for replacing the beige hood on a 1998 roadster. Is there a good option in Ireland, or is it better to go to UK?

Thanks

Tom - couple of options to purchase - see our sponsor above - or some of the lads use a company in Swansea - Jack somebosy or other - also RS Charged may be able to hlp - fitting yourself is an option depending on how competent you feel about doing these sort of things

Yep. Jack Smith's Trimmers in Swansea. (Though it is actually the son, Raymond, who does the work since his father passed away.)

Tel no. when I went to him last year was 0044 1792 461022

excellent work and - at the time - he was cheaper by far including ferry than any price I could get here. I think was £260 all inclusive for the hood to be made and fitted. He uses your own glass window if you have one or else can make a new plastic panel. I also got my seats done - new leather covers. Again excellent work and all done in one day.

Worth a call to him.

Hey Guy's

Looking at getting a new top for my car. Called JR Smith for a quate and it's looking like £280 for mohair and glass and £230 for mohair with plastic. So question, is the glass worth the extra cost and issues with the frame? or do I just go with the plastic? And is anyone able to help me pop it on?

Go for mohair with glass.
No probs giving a hand, but it'll have to happen at my place (Louth). I've Loads of space to get the job done in 2-3hrs.

I have a contact in UK for perfect fitting soft tops. std with plastic window are 250 euro (black) other colours plus 25 all in landed to your home.I am from UK and have lived in Ireland a few years.I used to fit these in the UK done plenty and absolutely no issues with fit and quality.
Just fitted one to my own car in half a day that was full frame out it makes for a better job.You can also check and paint frame out of car.
All options available mohair/glass/plastic all colours.
I have tried the cheap ones they are a disaster and never look right and dont last never mind water ingress.
My advise spend your money wisely and go for reputable fitter/manufacturer
