Child Seat, fits Mk1 - Free to Good Home

Do you have a toddler - of your own, or even a nephew, niece or grandchild - who'd like to travel top down occasionally?

OK - so "they" say you should never use a second hand child seat. But l would not even consider offering this seat if l was not 100% happy about its condition. l've owned it from new and it's never been in an accident, indeed, it's barely been used. l don't want any money for it but it would be a waste to bin it.

There are very few child seats that fit a Mk1 MX-5 passenger seat and l did a fair bit of research to find one that did when l got my S-Special (my daughter was 1 at the time and l had another on the way). This is a Britax Renaissance (Group 1 9-18kg (20-40lb) - About 9 months to 4½ years) and has a clamp mechanism that mounts it very securely.

My kids have outgrown it now. But also, it doesn't fit my car. Mine's an '89 but it fitted fine on the '94 l used to have. Maybe someone can comment in more detail but l think the buckle stalk on the later cars is shorter?

PM me if you want it or post questions if you need to know more. l'm in South Dublin, less than 5 mins from the M50.

There's been a flurry of activity by PM so it looks like this has gone. Will update the thread if that changes.

PS - just noticed that there's a flippin' baby section - suppose this should have gone there!

Thanks to Jeremy for the offer - will be quicker the next time!! Best of luck to whoever is getting it.

Just in case anyone needs to disable the passenger airbag to use a child seat, the following link might be useful.

http://www.jonathansblog.net/mx-5_mazda ... ide_airbag

The US spec miatas had a dash switch to disable the airbag. This mod shows the fitting of a switch to do this when using a child seat.

Hope it's of use.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

Need some help, her indoors is convinced it's not safe to fit a forward facing child seat in a 5 and wants me to sell it....... we have a rear facing maxi cosi fitted now and he's rapidly outgrowing it. I have the passenger airbag disabled.

Is it legal and safe?

Thanks for any replies..

Owen.

This post :
http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showpost.p ... ostcount=7

says :
"THe actual wording of the law, in the document linked from www.citizeninformation.ie is as follows

(3) Subject to the provisions of article 8 of these Regulations, the driver of a vehicle to which this article applies shall not, as and from the 1st day of January 1993, permit a person who is under 17 years of age to occupy a forward facing front seat, unless that person is—
( a ) 4 years of age or upwards and is wearing a safety belt, or
( b ) restrained by an appropriate child restraint.

This means that is it legal to have a child in a child seat in the front seat. "

I'd imagine people with vans/pickups are in the same boat.
I've been ferrying our guy about in the MX5 daily, mostly short "local" trips though. (He LOVES it) You tend to drive very very carefully I can tell you.
