Advice on buying first Mx5??

Postby Knight82 » Sat, 02 Mar 2013 12:08 +0000

Hi, I'm looking to buy my first mx5 after I get married in June. We are going to use herselfs car as the daily workhorse which gives me a free hand to buy something fun.

I've heard so much about these cars I've decided to finally buy one.

My maximum budget will be around 3.5k.

What should I go for at this price? I think I would prefer a 1.8 but not too sure on the differences to the 1.6. I'm not worried about year, tis more condition etc. Only things I really want area hardtop and a dark colour.

This is a car I will want to keep long term and improve.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hmm, for 3.5 k you should have plenty of choice.....just what are you expecting from an mx5??? If you want RAW driving pleasure then go for a mk1, you'll have plenty of change from the budget!!After that, if it's something more laid back for cruising then the mk2 is for you..don't think there's much mk3's about for 3.5k..that's my tuppence worth! Good luck with the hunt.

PS..TEST DRIVE as many examples as you can..

For general use mk2 is far the better model especially in1.8 .we have a few available for 2/2.5 k and also some extra,s you might like to add ie chromestyle bar, different alloys, interior trim etc. Also on our cars you can chop and change the bits like etc.My number is, 086 8226506 Robert ( we are sponsor on this site. Known as Autocheck).

Thanks. I will be using it to drive a couple of miles to work each day and then weekends. It wont be till the start of July before I'll be purchasing. Sounds like a mk2 1.8 would suit me best.

How are running costs with these cars. I previously had a 00 mini cooper mpi. Beautiful little car but broke my heart with rust!
