Re: Thoughts on going classic...did I see this car for sale recently?
Re: Thoughts on going classic...
Never meet your heros. A friend had one that he paid big money for, i was not impressed. It was very slow and all round a bit rubbish, then again it was a 25year old car.
Re: Thoughts on going classic...
I sold it last May and it was only advertised on Octane.ie. It may have sold again since but I haven't been watching out.
This is true if you don't adjust your expectations. The Mk.1 Golf was no quicker than my MX-5 which is the lowly 90BHP model. It was also quite terriffying in the steering and braking department. But then everything was back then. The quattro was in reality no quicker than a good quick modern saloon and again the brakes were archaic. The handling wasn't too sloppy. Of course it rolled and pitched a bit but the roadholding was great and must have been truly revolutionary back then. Also very stable through bends provided you kept the boot in! No ESP to rescue you and 4WD is lethal when it does kick you in the balls. And then there's the noise. That's all I can say about that. That car going across the Wicklow Gap let out a war cry that would scare young children and big animals!! And it was completely standard - just pure 5 cylinder bark with a huge dose of turbo whistling and twittering. Anyway, that was just a little trip down memory lane for me
